Providing Expertise in the Field: Meet Cecil Roberson
Servicing the State of Michigan, Cecil Roberson is a born and raised Detroiter and the owner of Roberson Law, PLLC. A Cass Technical High School graduate, Mr. Roberson has experience in contract law, entertainment law, employment law, civil litigation, civil and criminal defense, personal injury, family law, and landlord tenant. Mr. Roberson has extensive experience in negotiating entertainment contracts, creating privacy and user terms and conditions for e-commerce and tech startups, creating and managing trial strategy timelines, leading trial strategy meetings, drafting all relevant pleadings, litigating civil and criminal matters and holding jury trials to verdict.
Mr. Roberson is a former associate attorney at Jackson Lewis and former senior associate at Segal McCambridge Singer & Mahoney’s Detroit office. Prior to joining Segal McCambridge, Mr. Roberson worked as an associate attorney at the Detroit Land Bank Authority where he focused in corporate governance, compliance, property disposition and civil litigation defense. He also served as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Oakland County, Michigan, Kent County, Michigan, and a former volunteer assistant prosecuting attorney for Wayne County, Michigan.
Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Roberson had more than 10 years of experience in sales, marketing, and business development. He assisted multiple Fortune 500 and small businesses in maximizing their profits and business growth. Some of the Fortune 500 companies Mr. Roberson assisted included: AT&T, Coca-Cola, Philip Morris, General Motors, Saturn Automotive, and Target.
Mr. Roberson earned his J.D. from Wayne State University School of Law, where he was nominated by former Dean and current Michigan Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, for the Charles F. Filice — St. Ives of Treguier Award and was awarded the prestigious Damon J. Keith Scholarship.
During law school, he was president of the Black Law Student Association and gave many addresses to community, faculty, and his colleagues regarding issues related to the city of Detroit. Prior to his law career, Mr. Roberson earned his Masters in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University. He also holds bachelor’s degrees in both journalism and advertising from Michigan State University.
Cecil's first clients out of law school were domestic and international start-ups. Given his passion for helping grow small businesses, he is educating the next generation. Cecil is currently a professor of teaching Business Law and International Business Law at Michigan State University (MSU), his alma mater.
